Transportation Resources in Rice Village

Transportation Resources in Rice Village

For those who live in Rice Village, the RIDES program that is offered through Harris County is a great way to be able to maintain mobility even if you do not own a vehicle. If you have trouble taking public transportation then you should learn as much about the RIDES program and its ability to help you potentially get to the doctor, go shop for groceries or remain independent in a general sense.

RIDES is a curb-to-curb subsidized program that allows eligible customers and participating agencies to purchase transportation services at a significant discount. You would be responsible for paying half of the total trip cost. A shared ride program in which passengers share rides with other passengers requires you to make an advance reservation. The mileage distance from the point of pick up to the destination will determine the overall price. The cost for most rides for you as the rider is between $3.00 and $21.00

Taxi Services are also available. The cost of this metered same-day service is based on the rate of the meter fare box inside the taxicab. A one-way trip is available with a maximum cost of up to $48.00 where you pay 50% of the total trip cost. Your tax ride would be sent out to you on the same date as you make the reservation. Gulf Coast Community Services Association works with the RIDES Program to transport senior citizens and persons with disabilities. If you are looking for work or going to school, RIDES can work out transportation options for you, too.

The American Red Cross offers transport for persons who are low income or elderly or those who have special medical needs. Additionally, this organization offers non-emergency, door to door transportation to and from medical appointments and social service agencies, as well.
