A native Texan through and through, Jacob “Jake” Hirsch Scholl joined the firm in 2021 as a law clerk. Originally from San Antonio, Jake moved to Bellaire with his family in 2006. After attending college and law school in Colorado, Jake moved back to Houston to be closer to family (and for better food). His mother, a heart transplant surgeon, and his father, a reproductive endocrinologist, both practice in the Houston Medical Center.

Jake is a proud Aspie on the autism spectrum and is one of the first openly autistic advocates in the country. (Proudly following his good friend and colleague, Haley Moss, in Florida). Jake’s superpowers lend him a tremendous advantage as a law clerk. He can remember dates and names of court cases by the thousands and loves deep-diving into niche research topics. Jake’s Asperger’s lends him a unique advantage in family law; he is not so easily dissuaded from the dramatic stories and facts so often associated with divorce and child custody battles. Jake enjoys cleaning up messes and relishes victories of justice and fair play.

Jake graduated magna cum laude from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2017 with a bachelor’s independent degree in Economics and Exercise Science. He received his J.D. from the University of Denver in 2020.

While in law school, Jake’s internships were primarily behind the bench. In his 1L Summer, Jake clerked for the Honorable Judge Elizabeth Starrs (retired) at the 2nd Judicial District Court of Denver on civil matters. His 2L year, he clerked for the Honorable Judge Rebecca Freyre at the Colorado Court of Appeals. And in his 3L year, he clerked for Magistrate Karen Hübler in her post-decree family docket. Jake also worked at the University of Denver’s Student Law Office, ranked 7th in the country, as the sole criminal defense appellate student-lawyer defending clients’ constitutional rights. Though he intended to become a criminal defense attorney, he took a family law class in law school and was captivated by the subject matter.

During his law school experience, Jake was a consistent participant in mock trial tournaments and the Student Trial Lawyers Association. He served as the Member at Large and then Vice President for the Jewish Law Students Association, the Member at Large for the Criminal Law Association, and was appointed to the Honor Board by his Peers. While at law school, Jake completed his certification in mediation. He also took a class on Marijuana Law.

In his spare time, Jake enjoys bodybuilding and powerlifting. He jokes that his biggest accomplishment is not passing the bar exam on the first try, but instead squatting 455 lbs. for reps. Fascinated by courthouse history and architecture, Jake has a pending Guinness World Record for the most courthouses visited. He enjoys e-sports and axe throwing and is an active member of Mensa International.
