Educational Resources in Fort Bend County

Fort Bend County is a unique place when you consider the many educational opportunities that exist within its borders. On the one hand, you and your family will be next door to one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the United States- Houston. This means access to some of the most prestigious and highly thought of schools and universities that we have to offer in this country. On the other hand, Fort Bend County residents can also take advantage of the opportunities in their own backyards in terms of educational opportunities that are unique to their county.

The school district that serves Fort Bend County is Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. From Richmond to Sugar Land and over to Rosenberg, Lamar CISD has a history of producing well prepared students both for the workforce directly from high school as well as for continued education in college and beyond. Lamar CISD continues to grow in terms of student enrollment, but the schools and class sizes have stayed small in population due to the continued expansion of campuses.

Two community colleges have a presence in Fort Bend County, as well. Houston Community College and Wharton County Junior College both offer course loads that can help you or your child develop a level of experience in a certain vocational field or can help you earn an associate degree in an academic field of your choosing. All of this can be achieved at a fraction of a traditional four-year college degree.

For four-year degrees, institutions like the University of Houston, Rice University and Texas Southern University are just a short drive from Fort Bend County. Many Fort Bend County residents commute to these schools and live in Fort Bend County. This can be an ideal situation for you if you are interested in beginning or completing a college degree but are already working near your home in Fort Bend County.
