Family Law Attorney | Law Office of Bryan Fagan, PLLC – Rockwall

Every Family Has a Story

Every family has a story. Mine is why I do this work.

I became a family law attorney because I genuinely enjoy people. I want to hear their stories, understand where they have been, and learn what matters most to them before deciding how I can help.

Today I practice family law from the Law Office of Bryan Fagan, PLLC’s Rockwall office, helping families in Rockwall and surrounding North Texas communities navigate divorce in Rockwall County, child custody in Rockwall County, paternity, adoption and other major family transitions.

Family law is deeply personal. A divorce is not simply a lawsuit. A custody case is not simply a court order. These cases can affect where you live, how you spend time with your children, your finances, your relationships, and what your life looks like when the case is over.

That is why I believe good representation begins with listening.

Why I Practice Family Law

I earned my law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law and have practiced law in Texas since 2017. My career has focused on helping families navigate divorce, child custody, possession and access, paternity and parentage, modifications, adoption, termination and other significant family-law matters.

Over the years I have represented clients in contested hearings and final trials, managed family-law dockets, worked through discovery and mediation, and previously served as a Managing Family Attorney responsible for helping develop case strategy and reviewing the work of attorneys and paralegals.

Those experiences taught me something important: not every family needs the same solution, and not every case should follow the same path. Sometimes the best result comes from an agreement that gives everyone a workable path forward. Other times, important issues cannot be resolved without asking a judge to decide them. My job is to understand the difference — and to help my clients prepare for either path.

Listen First. Then Build the Strategy.

When someone comes to our Rockwall office for help with a family-law matter, there may be more questions than answers. What happens to my children? Where will I live? What happens to our property? What will this cost? How long will this take? What should I do next?

I do not believe the first response should be to start talking. I believe the first step is to listen. I want to understand what brought you here, what you are worried about, what matters most to you, and what you hope your life will look like when the case is finished. From there, we can identify the legal issues, explain your options, and develop a strategy for moving forward.

My approach is straightforward: listen, clarify, prepare, move forward.

How I Help Families in Rockwall County

Families come to our Rockwall office with different problems, and the right path depends on what has changed, what remains disputed, and what the family needs to accomplish. My work includes:

Divorce & Resolution

Divorce — when a marriage is ending and property, finances, children or other issues need to be resolved.

Uncontested divorce — when spouses believe they have reached agreement and need help working out what remains.

Contested divorce — when important issues remain disputed and negotiation, hearings or trial may be necessary.

Collaborative divorce — when both spouses want to work toward resolution through the Chapter 15 collaborative process.

Mediation — when clients want representation and strategic guidance while working toward a negotiated resolution.

Annulment — when the question is whether a marriage fits one of Texas’s statutory annulment grounds, or is instead void.

Children, Custody & Parentage

Child custody — when parenting arrangements, conservatorship, possession or access need to be established or changed.

Parental visitation — when the schedule itself is the issue — standard possession, expanded times, and the distance rules.

Child support — when support, medical support or dental support needs to be established, changed or enforced.

Paternity and parentage — when the father-child relationship needs to be established or clarified before conservatorship, possession, support or related rights and duties can be addressed.

Fathers’ rights — when a father needs to establish his legal status, or wants to understand what the Family Code actually says about sex and marital status.

Mothers’ rights — when an unmarried mother needs to know the father’s legal status, or whether an order is needed at all.

Parental alienation — when one parent alleges conduct is interfering with the child’s relationship with the other, and the question is what the evidence shows and what a court can act on.

Changing or Protecting the Family

Modifications — when an existing order no longer works.

Adoption — when a family is growing through adoption.

Termination of parental rights — when a case involves ending the legal parent-child relationship.

Child Protective Services defense — when a family is involved with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Prepared to Resolve a Case — and Prepared for Court

Family law does not have to mean fighting over everything. When spouses are able to reach agreement, an uncontested divorce in Rockwall County can allow them to resolve the marriage without asking a judge to decide every issue. Throughout my career I have represented clients during mediation and have seen how effective a well-prepared negotiation can be. Mediation does not mean giving up advocacy; my role is to help my client understand the issues, evaluate proposals, protect the interests that matter, and make informed decisions about whether an agreement makes sense.

But reaching an agreement is not the same as reaching the right agreement. Settlement only works when the terms appropriately address the issues that matter to the client.

When an agreement is not possible, I am comfortable moving forward with contested divorce and other contested family-law matters, including hearings and trial. My experience includes temporary-order hearings, contested evidentiary matters, final trials, and a contested divorce involving an estate valued at approximately $1.3 million. I believe those two abilities belong together: work toward resolution when resolution makes sense, and be prepared for court when it does not.

Families Change — and Grow — in Different Ways

Some of the most meaningful cases I have worked on involve children and the different ways families are formed, changed and rebuilt. Professionally, I have represented clients in adoption and termination proceedings, child custody matters, paternity cases, and matters involving the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Adoption is also deeply personal to me. My husband, Andrew, and I became parents through adoption. Our daughter was adopted at birth after arriving two months prematurely, and becoming her mother profoundly shaped the way I think about family.

Families do not all begin the same way. They do not all look the same. And they do not all experience change in the same way. Some families come to us because they are separating. Others need to restructure parenting arrangements as their children grow. And some families are beginning an entirely new chapter through adoption. That perspective is one reason matters involving children, paternity, adoption and foster care are especially meaningful to me.

What Family Law Has Taught Me

Listen before you advise.

Two cases may look similar on paper while involving completely different people, priorities, and concerns. Understanding the client comes before developing the strategy.

Clarity reduces uncertainty.

Legal proceedings can be confusing enough without your attorney making them harder to understand. I want my clients to know what is happening, why it matters, and what comes next.

Preparation creates options.

Whether a case resolves through negotiation, mediation, or trial, careful preparation puts a client in a better position to understand the available choices and make informed decisions.

The case ends. Your life continues.

My goal is not simply to close a file. The decisions made during a divorce, custody case, paternity matter, adoption, or other family-law matter can affect a family long after the court signs the final order. I want to help clients make decisions with that future in mind.

Rockwall and North Texas Are Home

I am originally from Houston, but North Texas is now home, and I am proud to serve families through our firm’s Rockwall County office. If you are coming to meet with us in person, our Plan Your Visit – Rockwall Office guide can help you prepare for your visit, including where to go and what to expect when you arrive.

Outside the office, much of my world revolves around my husband, Andrew, and our daughter. We also share our home with two cats, Temmin and Mara.

I love learning and exploring. I have traveled to all 50 states and 14 countries, and one of my goals is eventually to visit every continent. When I am closer to home, you will often find me reading, crocheting, or playing video games. Travel has given me opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds and see how differently people can experience the world. That curiosity about people is also part of what drew me to family law in the first place. Everyone has a story — and when someone trusts me with theirs, I take that responsibility seriously.

Part of a Team Built Around the Client

At the Law Office of Bryan Fagan, PLLC, I work as part of a larger legal team built around a simple idea: different families and different cases require different types of experience. The firm was founded by Bryan Fagan to help families understand their options, develop a strategy, and move forward during some of life’s most difficult transitions. Working within that team gives our clients access not only to their attorney, but also to the broader experience and resources of the firm. You can learn more about our firm.

What You Can Expect From Me

People come to our Rockwall office for family-law help because something has changed — or may be about to.

If we work together, I want you to understand more than what paperwork needs to be filed. I want you to understand where your case is going, what choices you have, what we are preparing for, and why.

You can expect me to listen, communicate directly, prepare carefully, and give you honest guidance — even when the answer is not the one you hoped to hear. Because ultimately, family law is not just about getting through a case. It is about helping you figure out what comes next.
